Description:
TweetVisitors to Bristol can expect an amazing display of coloured sky craft if they venture to Ashton Court this weekend, as the city hosts the 2010 Bristol International Festival of Kites and Air Creations.
The Festival flying programme runs from to 12noon to 5.30pm on Saturday and Sunday and features colourful flying displays, spectacular kite-fighting battles, synchronized routines flown to music, the thrills and spills of kite powered buggy racing and land boarding and specially themed arena fly-ins.
Other entertainments on offer include free children’s kite-making and other craft workshops, play structures for the kids, specialist kite traders, a licensed bar and a selection of appetising food and drink stalls.
The 2010 Bristol half marathon is also taking place on Sunday, and the Kite Festival will follow on afterwards. Drivers are advised to follow Festival event signs to Ashton Court as road closures will be in place in the city centre for the half marathon.
The Bristol kite festival has teamed up this year with the Great Western Air Ambulance as its nominated charity. Visitors to the event will be able to see the charity’s helicopter at the festival (subject to emergency call outs), and fundraising activities on each day will include parachuting teddy bears.
The event is free to enter for cyclists and pedestrians, and parking on site is available at a cost of £7 per car.
