A Bristol journalist is hoping to raise money to support research into dementia with a sponsored swim.
Bristol journalist William Davis has organised a charity swim from Tenby harbour to Caldey Island in Pembrokeshire to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society. Twenty intrepid volunteers are also doing the swim, many from Bristol. The challenge takes place this weekend on Saturday, September 4, at 2.00PM and everyone involved is aiming to raise as much money for the charity as they can.
William’s mother was diagnosed with the disease two years ago, motivating him and his fellow swimmers to raise money for the society, who do a lot of work to help fund new research as well as look after sufferers and the people who care for them.
The famous crossing is close to three miles in length and the waters subject to big tides and strong currents. The team have been training hard, thanks to the support of David Lloyd Bristol North Club in at Westbury-on-Trym, who let them use their pool.

William also has a blog at www.dogintheove@wordpress.com, where he gives an insight into the experience of caring for someone with dementia.
