Bristol Kite Festival preview comes to Durdham Downs

01 September 2010

Description:

Tomorrow will see specially invited national and international kite flyers bring a selection of colourful, shaped kites to Durdham Downs in Bristol, in preparation for the 2010 Bristol International Festival of Kites & Air Creations at Ashton Court this weekend.

The Kite Festival will follow on from the Bristol half marathon on Sunday. Some Bristol runners will be limbering up with the flyers on the Downs alongside a pair of Martin Lester’s jogging legs kites.

The preview, which takes place on Ladies Mile on 02 September from 2.30PM, will also feature kites in the shape of sea creatures, including a mega rainbow manta ray, octopus and flying fish, designed and flown by Peter Lynn.

There will also be shoals of fish by fellow New Zealander Robert van Weers, as well as larger than life mermaids and cherubs by Italian kite designer Marco Casadio.

The preview will also feature by Kelvin Woods’ ‘Tribute to the Stars’, in the form of photographic style hand-stitched portraits of stars including Debbie Harry, Johnny Cash and Mohammed Ali.

Avon Kite Flyers club members will be on Durdham Downs flying their family of giant geckos, a 30m play sail and various Martin Lester flying body parts including a flying man.
