Sun shines on Bristol Old Duke Jazz Festival bank holiday event

31 August 2010

Description:

The sun was shining on the Old Juke Jazz Festival over the bank holiday weekend, and people at the Bristol event soaked up a selection of jazz sounds as well as sunshine.

The Old Duke Jazz Festival has become a summer staple of Bristol’s festival scene. The event, held in King Street, saw three days of jazz entertainment served up for revellers.

A selection of bands with a mixture of musical styles performed at the free event, including The Kirris Riviere Blues Band, Edenheight, Phantom Limb and Flash Harry on Saturday.

Sunday saw resident blues musician Eddie Martin with band The Little Big Horns top the bill. They were supported by Roger Well's Hot Shots, Geoff Nichol's Good Vibes, Top Shelf Jazz and The Jiveoholics.

The festival came to a close on Monday night with a performance by Jeremy Huggett's Band of Gold. Also playing on Monday were The Severn Jazzmen and Blue Notes with Hannah Wedlock, as well as performances by Pet Allen and Maggie Reeday with Cass' Allstars.

The Old Duke is one of Bristol’s most popular small venues for live music, and in 2009 it was named by the Brecon Jazz Festival as one of 12 venues which had made the most important contributions to jazz music in the UK.
