Description:
Amy Willerton was crowned Miss Bristol 2010 on Sunday night, as she triumphed in her bid to become the woman who will represent the city in the Miss England final. She was crowned by reigning Miss England Katrina Hodge.
Amy, 17, beat twenty other competitors to become the first Miss Bristol chosen in a full pageant since 1968. She took part in three rounds, which included a catwalk display of Evening Wear. The event was held in the Wessex Room of The Grand hotel in Broad Street.
Amy was interviewed onstage by the Miss Bristol organisers Stages Hair Design during the Casual Wear round, and also impressed the judges with her creativity during a display of Eco Wear. Competitors had to design and model a garment that they had made from recycled materials, and the event was used to promote the message of sustainability in the environment.
Amy was the winner of a combination of audience votes and the decision of a panel of specially selected judges. The judges included Angelique da Silva from Guide2Bristol, Kirk Woodward of Woodward Photography, Christine Vokins of City of Bristol College and Katrina Hodge.
Organisers Richard, Simon and Roz of Stages Hair Design were extremely happy with the results of the pageant, which was their first Miss Bristol event. Managing Director Richard said, ‘We’ve been really pleased by the support we’ve received from people involved in the show, and everyone has had a great time. We hope to repeat the event next year but make it larger.’
Katrina Hodge gave all the entrants some words of encouragement, telling them to ‘keep trying’, as it had taken her several attempts to win her crown.
The first runner up was Laura Vincent, and the second runner up was Grace Levy. The winners, judges and many guests ended the evening at a private after show party at Rewind Retro Bar on Corn Street.
