A number of students from Bristol University have been involved in a discovery concerning a piece of art.
The individuals, who are in the process of completing History of Art MAs, found that a 16th Century picture which had been identified as Sir Thomas Overbury was in fact Sir Robert Dudley, the Earl of Leicester's illegitimate son.
Currently, the picture is part of a new exhibition at Montacute House in Somerset.
The students worked with the National Portrait Gallery (NPG) - which was founded in 1856 to promote the medium and is based in London - while researching the piece.
Commenting on their work, Richard Higgs from the National Trust's Montacute House said: "Their research for this exhibition has uncovered important new ways of interpreting these 'unknown' portraits."
He added that the "exciting" exhibition will provide visitors with a unique way of looking at the paintings.
It is running until October next year and more information can be found on the NPG website.
