Although they do not have to hunt for their food, a group of fish in a Bristol aquarium are being taught how to catch prey.
Staff at the Blue Reef Aquarium, which is open from 10:00 GMT each morning - with the exception of Christmas Day, when it remains closed - are training a shoal of spitting fish how to hunt, the BBC reports.
Using artificial flies stuck to a mobile which is suspended above the tank and smeared with bloodworm, the workers are encouraging the athletic creatures to leap into air.
A spokesperson for the aquarium revealed that it has seven or eight fish of about 18 months old and, at feeding times, they can reach up to hit the targets.
When they do so, bits of food are dislodged and fall into the water.
Senior aquarist Lindsay Holloway remarked: "In the summer if we have some insects flying around I'll be surprised if they don't go for them."
