Bristol Twitter community raise money for charity with ‘Twestival’

03 March 2010

Description:

Users of the Twitter social networking service in Bristol will raise money for charity by taking part in a worldwide ‘Twestival’ on 25/03.

The second annual Twestival event is part of a worldwide campaign that began in 2009. Over 200 Twestivals across the world will take place on March 25 to raise money for a good cause and encourage friendships and networking opportunities between users of Twitter.

Last year the event raised over £1500 for charity: water with the combined global funds helping to install a fresh-water well in an Ethiopian village.

The location for the Bristol event, sponsored by Bristol-based digital publishing company Sift, is The Tunnels, two converted railway arches near Brunel’s original office at Temple Meads Station.

This year, the fundraising efforts are in aid of Concern Worldwide, an international humanitarian organisation that aims to transform the lives of the world's poorest, most marginalised children through education. With the increase in the number of people using Twitter the 2010 event is expected to be bigger and than ever, and Bristol organisers have set a fundraising target of £3,000.

Dan Martin, editor of BusinessZone.co.uk and lead organiser of the Bristol Twestival, commented, “If this year’s party is even half as good as last year’s, everyone who comes will have a fantastic time!

“While much of the activity for Twestival is driven by Twitter the event has a real community feel and is a great way for Bristol people to come together on the same day as communities around the world to raise money for a great cause.”

Twestival takes place at 7.30pm on 25 March, and tickets are only £5 each. They can be purchased at http://bristol.twestival.com/. The price includes all entertainment and the first 150 attendees will receive a goody bag. All proceeds go to Concern Worldwide.
