Bristol property market 'to have slow start to year'

22 February 2010

Description:

The Bristol property market is likely to have a slow start to the year, it has been claimed.

According to Bernard Clarke, spokesman for the Council of Mortgage Lenders, money taken out in the form of home loans will pick up as the year goes on but will not amount to much initially.

He stated: "Over the course of this year we expect to see some increase in business, but we expect probably a slow start to the year."

It is important to take into account the fact that there was a rush at the end of 2009 as people tried to make the most of the stamp duty holiday, which came to a close on December 31st, he added.

Mr Clarke's comments were made despite new figures from Paragon Mortgages showing that 58 per cent of brokers expect business to increase by an average of 7.1 per cent in the first quarter.
