New property is to be built in Bristol as part of a government scheme to revive the construction sector.
Housing minister John Healey announced that more than 11,000 homes will be constructed across the country as part of the Kickstart programme. More than 547 new houses are to go up in the south-west, with a further 90 subject to final approval.
Mr Healey, who assumed his current role in June of this year, revealed that some developers failed the government's value for money test.
He added: "Kickstart funding comes with tough terms and I expect much of this money to be repaid within five years."
The politician went on to say that he expects all developers to offer apprenticeships and local jobs opportunities for young workers.
In the first round of the programme, 152 property development schemes were approved out of a total of 270 who initially showed interest. A second round will take place soon.
