The world of amateur boxing in Bristol received a boost recently with a famous face throwing his support behind it.
According to reports in the Bristol Evening Post, former world super middleweight champion Glenn Catley has joined the committee of Bristol Sporting Club, which provides financial assistance to non-professionals in the area.
According to chairman of the organisation Trevor Benville-Scott, the boxing great is putting a lot back into boxing.
He went on to liken the former sportsman's efforts to what Joe Calzaghe is doing in Wales.
Recently, Catley attended a boxing event at the Grand Thistle Hotel in Bristol, which is located on Broad Street, in which the Western Counties Amateur Boxing Association beat the Royal Navy five wins to three.
Commenting on the occasion, he said: "It was a great evening and very entertaining. All the bouts were well-matched and there was some good talent on show."
