Bristol Sports Round Up - October 2008

29 October 2008

Description:

Bristol Sports Round Up

BRISTOL ROVERS

Three months into the football season and October proved to be a fantastic month for the Rovers who were unbeaten in the League and picked up 13 out of a possible 15 points. This has moved them up to 11th place, 9 points behind leaders Scunthorpe. Continued excellent form should see them carry on their march up the table and in form Rickie Lambert who scored all 4 goals in the recent 4-2 victory at home to Southend (first time since Jamie Cureton scored 4 in a match for Rovers back in 1999 against Reading) looks on target to smash Rovers record for most goals in a season. That record has been held for over 50 years by Geoff Bradford who scored 33 goals in the 1952/53 season.

November games for Bristol Rovers are:-

Saturday 1st November AWAY to Leicester City
Saturday 8th November (FA CUP) AWAY to AFC Bournemouth
Friday 14th November HOME to Scunthorpe
Saturday 22nd November HOME to Swindon Town
Tuesday 25th November AWAY to Hartlepool

BRISTOL CITY

Bristol City have had a so so October picking up 8 points from 15, coming from wins against Norwich City and Charlton (2-0 away - great result) and goalless draws in their last two games at Barnsley and home to Sheffield United. With 6 league games for City in November they will certainly be looking to move up from their current 8th place in the League and pull back Wolves and Birmingham who are creating a gap between the automatic promotion places and play offs. More goals are needed with only 16 in their 14 league games so far this term and Ashton Gate will be buzzing if they start ramming them in the net again in a busy month for the side.

November games for Bristol City are:-

Saturday 1st November HOME to Reading
Saturday 8th November AWAY to Southampton
Saturday 15th November HOME to Nottingham Forest
Saturday 22nd November AWAY to Crystal Palace
Tuesday 25th November HOME to Watford
Saturday 29th November AWAY to Preston

BRISTOL RUGBY

Not the best of starts to the season would be an understatement for Bristol Rugby. Yet to pick up a win in the Guinness Premiership and with just 2 bonus points the Bristol faithful are desperate for their luck to turn around. The city is passionate about its rugby and want to see Bristol move up the table and away from a relegation dogfight that seems to be on the cards this season. Bristol Rugby will always find it hard to compete with the big money clubs however their team spirit and comradary can see them through this tough year and with 3 home fixtures in November they are sure to pick up some points. C'mon Bris!

On the positive side Bristol picked up their first win in the European Challenge Cup with a 39-11 home win against Toulon.

November fixtures for Bristol Rugby are:-

Saturday 1st November HOME to Saracens
Sunday 16th November HOME to Northampton
Friday 21st November AWAY to Gloucester
Sunday 30th November HOME to London Irish
