Half term havoc comes to Bristol Old Vic

08 February 2012

Description:

Half term havoc comes to Bristol Old Vic

Bristol Old Vic is planning a week of havoc during the forthcoming half term week with two shows planned, one for younger children at the beginning of the week and something for slightly older children towards the end. Performances will take place in the morning and afternoon and between shows there will be some free activities for children to enjoy.

Stones and Bones is a show from Squashbox Theatre aimed at children from age five and above. Taking place from Monday 13 to Wednesday 15 February it will take audiences on a journey back in time to prehistoric Cornwall, a land of stones and bones. The show contains a wonderful mix of history and mystery and includes stories of giants and wizards, glimpses of dinosaurs and an erupting volcano. Squashbox will be providing thrills and spills, laughter, puppets, songs, slapstick, tall tales and crazy characters.

There will be performances at 11.00AM and 2.00PM and between them the Bristol Old Vic will become an excavation site where children armed with magnifying glasses, telescopes and dusting brushes will hunt for clues to find the dinosaurs.

On Thursday 16 and Friday 17 February Edward Jaspers of the Teasel Theatre Company will be performing in Grisly Tales from Tumblewater, a one-man show adapted from a novel by Bruno Vincent. The show is aimed at children aged eight and above and is described as “Dickens meets Roald Dahl via Horrible Histories with laughs, frights and live music.”

The audience will be welcomed to Tumblewater, although it’s not a very welcoming place unless you’re an undertaker or an umbrella salesman. The twisted landowner, Caspian Prye, controls everything and everyone, even the police. Can Daniel Dorey bring down Caspian Prye? Can he rescue the girl in the distant room? Can he stay alive long enough to tell his tales?

Between the performances at 11.00AM and 2.00PM there will be a gruesome party, attended by the ghosts and ghouls of the Bristol Old Vic; the young audience are invited to join them for ghastly delights and sweet treats.

Tickets for Stones and Bones cost £6 and tickets for Grisly Tales from Tumblewater are £8; additional activities between the shows are free. Children are welcome to bring a picnic or order one from the Box Office for £5 per person. Dressing up is encouraged.
