Encounters Film Festival Bristol competitions for short filmmakers & animators

01 February 2012

Description:

The Encounters 18th Short Film and Animation Festival will take place in Bristol from Tuesday 18 to Sunday 23 September; entry has opened today (30 January) for DepicT, the Watershed’s short filmmaking competition which forms part of the festival and from 01 March until 06 June filmmakers and animators will also be able to submit entries for the festival itself.

Entry for DepicT opens today; short filmmakers have until Monday 09 July to submit their short films for the chance to win £1,500, priceless exposure at the Encounters Festival and numerous other prizes. Entry can be made free online at www.depict.org where further information is also available.

Submission will be open from 01 March until 06 June for the Encounters 18th Short Film and Animation Festival. Filmmakers and animators from around the world are invited to submit their work for the chance to win a prize or a prestigious nomination including BAFTAs, Cartoon D’Or, European Film Awards or Oscars for which Encounters is a qualifying festival. For more details please visit www.encounters-festival.org.uk.

The Encounters Film Festival has announced two major staff changes; Mark Cosgrove, Head of Programme at the Watershed, is to end his tenure as Short Film Programmer for Brief Encounters and will become Artistic Director of Encounters, providing the festival with its overall artistic vision; his previous role will be taken by Gaia Meucci. Gaia has extensive experience working at organisations such as the Edinburgh International Film Festival, Clermont Ferrand and as assistant programmer on the London Calling retrospective at the Forum des Images in Paris. Her career as a short-film curator began when she joined the pre-selection team of Encounters as a volunteer in 2008. Gaia’s key responsibilities will be to select the short film programme for Brief Encounters and work with the Artistic Director, Managing Director and Animation Programmer on the delivery of all aspects of the competitive programme.

The new September dates for the festival have been selected in light of developmental changes within its strategy, to align itself with the relevant calendar year for the Academy Awards and European Film Awards for which it is a qualifying festival and so that it takes place at a less congested time in the short film and animation festival year.
