30 January 2012

Description:

Tom Johnson of indie music website GoldflakePaint gives his pick of the week's Bristol gigs and music events 30 January-05 February

Scarlet Rascal & The Trainwreck, The Louisiana - Monday 30 January

Raw bluesy rock and roll from the Bristol four-piece. The band always put on a great show so head down to the Louisana to blow the weekend cobwebs away.

Towns + Spectres, Start The Bus - Wednesday 01 February

The best band to ever come out of Weston-Super-Mare celebrate the release of their first single proper with this show at Start The Bus. One of 2012's most hotly-tipped bands, they recorded the single (and forth-coming album) with the Oasis and The Verve producer Owen Morris. Support comes from Spectres, another of the South West's finest young bands.

run, Walk!, The Louisiana - Thursday 02 February

If noise is your thing then be sure to check out the brilliant run,Walk! when they play The Louisiana on Thursday. Distorted bass and drums combine to make brilliant, chaotic rock with more than an enough hooks and ideas to keep you entertained. Support comes from another duo - the excellent Cycle Schmeichel.

I'm Not Yelling; Econo, Fresh Milk, Crash Paris, The Hatchet - Friday 03 February

A monthly local club night that always delivers with an excellent line-up. Expect lots of brilliant noisy rock music followed by a mighty fine DJ set from the INY team.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah + Meursault, Thekla - Saturday 04 February

Indie rock at it's finest from American five-piece Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. The band burst onto the scene with their self-titled debut album back in 2005 and have released a further two LP's since then. Support is from the wonderful Scottish electronic-folksters Meursault whos much anticipated second album is expected very soon.

King Creosote & Jon Hopkins + Withered Hand, The Fleece - Sunday 05 February

Kenny Anderson has been making subtle folk music for over a decade and is considered one of the finest lyricists of his generation thanks to his wry, and often self-deprecating, way with words. Last years album, a collaboration with the electronic producer Jon Hopkins, was one of the 2011's finest so expect it to be well represented here. Another of Scotland's finest folk artists, Withered Hand, provides the support so make sure to get down early.
