Television presenter Jennie Bond, the BBC’s former Royal Correspondent, will be visiting Bristol’s Colston Hall on Friday 24 February to present Happy and Glorious, a gala concert to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne on 06 February 1952; this year will see a host of celebrations as the country commemorates her Diamond Jubilee and Colston Hall concert on Friday 24 February will be one of the first events held in Bristol to mark the occasion.
Conductor Gavin Sutherland will lead the London Concert Orchestra in a celebration of 60 glorious years in music and song. The orchestra will be joined by guest singers Rosemary Squires and James Graeme and a traditional Scottish piper will also take to the stage.
The concert programme will feature favourite music from TV and radio, including Last of the Summer Wine, Dad’s Army, Coronation Street, Morecambe and Wise and the Archers, as well as a tribute to the Honours List, a set that will include The Floral Dance, Summer Holiday, Any Dream Will Do and Hey Jude.
White Cliffs of Dover, We’ll Meet Again, Men of Harlech, Calling All Workers, Life on the Ocean Wave, Coronation Scot, Danny Boy, Scotland the Brave and There’ll Always Be an England will all feature as will Last Night of the Prom favourites Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory.
The concert will begin at 7.30PM. Tickets are priced from £19.50 to £34.50.
