Bristol’s Grain Barge, located on the Harbourside at Hotwells, is currently showing an exhibition of work by local photographer James Koch and on Thursday 12 January will be hosting an opening reception offering guests an opportunity to view the photos, meet and chat to the artist and even have an iPortrait taken by James.
James Koch is a self-taught photographic artist from Bristol who specialises in capturing the surrealism of everyday human life and describes his work as “photographing real-life today in an unreal way.”
James doesn’t use flash, a studio or stage his images and is a firm believer in the notion that “the best camera is the one you have with you”, the key is in the capture.
James’s surreal real-life photography captures places, streets and people; he has previously exhibited in Bristol’s Weapon of Choice Gallery and he also produced a collection of photographs for them last summer from See No Evil, Europe’s biggest Street Art Festival which saw many of the buildings in Nelson Street transformed into works of art.
Care for a Secret is an exhibition of iPhotos, all taken from 2010 to 2011. Visitors to the opening reception on Thursday 12 January will have the opportunity not just to meet and chat to James but also to sit for an iPortrait, perfect for use as a profile picture on social network sites such as Twitter; the results can be emailed on the night.
Anyone wishing to attend the reception, which will be open from 7.00PM until 10.00PM, should RSVP via the Grain Barge’s Facebook event page at https://www.facebook.com/events/225392277538405/.
