Rudy Millard gives you the city’s definitive list of organised Bristol Firework Displays and Bonfire Night events in 2011

 

Exploding powder season is upon Bristol once again. Forget austerity, if you want to see money literally go up in smoke then this is your year. November the fifth is on a Saturday this year and the big displays are all present and correct, along with some notable tiddlers. If you are hankering after a well organised and safe display you have a fantastic selection to choose from.

 

The big news is that Bristol Round Table and Clifton Rotary Club of previous Downs fireworks display are back in the mix this year. They are putting on a huge display at Canford Park in Westbury-On-Trym, so if you fancy venturing up town a bit they will be sure to give you a show to remember.

 

There are also plenty of other displays happening across the city where you can help raise money for charity while gazing at the night sky. It will be almost certainly be hot dog and jacket potato weather for sure, so wrap up warm and be prepared to eat up! The way the weather’s been though, it’s just as likely to be shorts and t-shirts with ice cream to follow.

Friday 04 November

 

St Ursula's Fireworks Display, Westbury-On-Trym School display with lots going on, organised by the PTFA and guaranteed to start your Friday with a bang!

 

St Pauls Free Fireworks Display, Portland Square - Great local display, starts at 7.15 sharp and is only on for fifteen minutes, so look sharp! Refreshments on sale at Cosies and Portland Cafe.


Bangless Bonfire Nights, Bristol Zoo Gardens As dog owners at Guide2Bristol, we love this show! Totally noise-free fireworks but all the sparkly wow factor for the kids remains - perfect for the zoo animals your little ones as well as pets in the city.

 

Redland High School for Girls Firework Fiesta Fireworks, hot dogs and mulled wine to be had here, you need to buy tickets in advance from the school though.

 

Family Firework Display and BBQ, Charborough Road Primary School Support this one folks, all money raised goes to support the school, so pop down and have some fun! Lots of room for families to view the show.


Downend Fireworks 2010 Huge display, always raises a lot of money for good causes, has raised over half a million pounds in forty years. People reckon it’s the biggest charity display in Bristol. Local TV legend Sherrie Eugene is pressing the fireworks launch button this year.

 

Cleve RFC Family Firework Display,  Mangotsfield Rugby club fireworks event for all the family, plenty of fun to be had, fairground rides and BBQ too!

 

 

Saturday 05 November

 

 

Bangless Bonfire Nights, Bristol Zoo Gardens We love this show! Two nights of noise-free fireworks, plenty of sparkly wow factor for the kids without the scary noises - great for the zoo animals and little ones.

 

Fireworks at Easter Compton Playing Fields Fireworks display organised by local village hall folk. More of the same this year, a great display if you’re in the area.


2011 Bristol Fireworks Fiesta at Canford Park Bristol Round Table and The Rotary Club of Clifton are back, thirty years experience putting on the Downs display means that this is bound to be a great firework show, well worth seeing.

 

Bonfire Night, Victoria Park One of the city’s loveliest parks, no fireworks but VPAG have their famous bonfire stoked by locals. It's free and they'll be serving mulled wine and hot dogs.

 

Puxton Park Firework Display, Weston-Super-Mare Three year olds and under get in for free at this out of town firework display.


Nailsea and Backwell Rugby Club This is the rugby club’s main fundraiser, so give it some support please. Hot and cold food and drinks will be on sale during the evening.


Winterbourne Fireworks Display Sunnyacres Farm hosts this fundraiser for 1st Winterbourne Scout Group. They request that people don’t bring Chinese lanterns or sparklers along to the event.

 

Bonfire Night Firework Display, Cadbury House Kids entertainment and with a bonfire BBQ, as well as an afternoon, evening and night of fireworks and bonfire fun.


Keynsham RFC Fireworks Night Rugby club firework display with a funfair on site.

 

Thornbury Bonfire and Firework Display Thornbury Round Table put on their annual Mundy Field bonfire night firework display. All profits to charity and music from Jack FM.


Clevedon Round Table 50th Annual Bonfire & Firework Spectacular 2011 A big old display this one, organised by Clevedon and District Round Table and now in its fiftieth year. It just gets bigger and better, and raises an awful lot of money for good causes.

 

The Chantry Annual Firework Display, Thornbury The Chantry puts on its annual display, please note that sparklers are not permitted at the event. Plenty of fun still to be had though, including refreshments from The Chantry Bar.

 

Firework Display, High Down Jnr School, Portishead Good old traditional school firework display raising money to support the school. Under-fives get in for free, which is as it should be.

 

 

06 November


Bradley Stoke Fireworks Display 2011, Jubilee Centre Bradley Stoke Town Council do the trick here once again, and of course it's a biggie. Free entry, but have some coins ready as there are charity collections on the gate. All donations go to the Mayor’s charity, which this year is Bradley Stoke Scouts and Three Brooks Nature Conservation Group.

 

Free Fireworks Party, The Trinity Centre Cool free fireworks party with music by Bristol Reggae Orchestra plus the usual mix of food, hot cider and a big bonfire. The people at Trinity are lovely! Family friendly community entertainment, with live music and dancing.

 

Fireworks Spectacular, County Cricket Ground These cricketing folks know how to host a great big fireworks party, for sure. Two fireworks displays, with the earlier one especially for kids. They had a great event last year, and there is free parking at the ground too if you can get there early enough. Not out...of fireworks yet!

 

 

Phew...what a lot of fireworks there are to be sure. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for good weather. Go ahead and have lots of fun, be safe, and please make sure that you keep pets indoors on the night if they don’t like fireworks...this November 05 will be particularly loud it looks like.
