Description:
A 1,500-signature petition protesting against a proposed resident's parking scheme in areas of Bristol surrounding the city centre was today handed in to Bristol City Council.
The new parking scheme proposed to include Southville, parts of Bedminster, parts of Windmill Hill, The Dings, St Paul's, Montpelier, Cotham and Clifton. Under the scheme householders would be charged £40 for the first car and between £100 and £200 for their second.
Apparently the aim, according to Councillor Mark Bradshaw, is to "put residents first, support local shopkeepers, tackle congestion and boost park-and-ride facilities" and stop people working in Bristol leaving their cars all day and denying residents and shoppers a place to park.
