The New Root are a Bristol-based female-fronted indie/alternative rock band who have been performing both locally and nationally for four years; in 2010 they released their debut album ‘Talk is Ending’.
Live and Unsigned is the UK’s biggest original music competition for unsigned bands and artists, open to all genres of music from rap to heavy rock. The New Root entered the competition, which has attracted more than fifty thousand entries in the past five years, and battled against the best talent in the South West to secure a coveted slot at the Area Finals.
The band will be competing again on Sunday 15 May for the opportunity to progress to the National Final at Live Fest, which takes place at London’s O2 Arena on 23 July.
The New Root have been described as “Radiohead meets Kate Bush” and have also been compared to a wide range of artists including U2 and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. In addition to practising for their appearance at the Areal Finals they are also preparing their next single, which they will unveil on the same day.
Live and Unsigned’s panel of judges includes Kerrang’s Alex Baker and Radio One’s Annie Nightingale; their chosen winner will be offered a management and recording contract with Future Music with an investment of up to £50,000, plus the opportunity to perform on a world tour and at festivals as far afield as Canada and Australia. The prize pool also includes opportunities for the other entrants to win prizes including support slots at festivals and recording studio time.
