Bristol Twestival is taking place this month, and will be bringing together users of the Twitter social network to raise funds for a local charity.
The Bristol Twestival is now in its third year, and is part of a worldwide charity fundraiser organised by volunteers and run through Twitter, who will join 160 Twestivals around the world to raise money for local good causes.
The Bristol Twestival takes place on 24 March at Metropolis on Cheltenham Road, Bristol. This year the event will be raising money for the Rainbow Centre for Children, a Knowle-based group which provides free and professional support to children and their families affected by bereavement, life-threatening illness and cancer.
Angela Emms, director at the Rainbow Centre for Children said, “Families come to us not only because someone has died from an illness but also as a result of road traffic accidents, suicide or murder. The money from Twestival will be hugely beneficial.”
The event was an enormous success last year, and raised over £6000 for the chosen charity Concern Worldwide. Organisers hope that this year’s efforts will top that, and expect more than 200 people to attend the event. 100% of all monies raised will be donated to the Rainbow Centre.
This year’s Bristol Twestival will be hosted by local comedian Paul Parry. Music on the night will be provided by a number of local bands including Dub Mafia.
The traditional Twestival raffle will also take place, and prizes this year include an iPad 2 donated by Bristol’s Sift Media and Sift Groups.
Lead Bristol Twestival organiser Dan Martin, editor of BusinessZone.co.uk added, “Using Twestival, we have identified a huge community of Bristol people who are passionate about using social media to connect and engage. Twestival well and truly proves that social media can be used for social good.”
Tickets for Bristol Twestival are priced at £5 each until 5PM on 14 March when they will increase to £7. They can bought at http://www.amiando.com/Twestival2011_bristol.html
