The Royal West of England Academy exists for everyone with an interest in art and design, and is open all year round.
The RWA shows inspiring work by emerging artists as well as bringing high-profile exhibitions by established artists to Bristol.
Recent exhibitions include contemporary British artists such as Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst, Jack Vettriano, Bridget Riley, Sir Terry Frost, Barbara Hepworth, Peter Blake and David Hockney.
In 2009, 'Crimes of Passion: Street Art in Bristol' was a celebration of Bristol's street art scene, when fifty graffiti artists painted directly on to the ornately corniced walls of the Royal West of England Academy galleries.
Bristol's first art gallery, the RWA was founded in 1844. The RWA is housed in a magnificent Grade II listed building at the top of Queens Road in Clifton, and includes six galleries, Bristol Drawing School, a Papadeli cafe, and gift shop.
Admission to exhibitions costs £5 (£3 concessions, under 16s/UWE/Filton students FREE) and there is an exciting programme of talks, events and workshops open to all.
