Description:

Bristol City Centre is the area bordered by St Pauls, EastonRedcliffe, Clifton, Cotham and Hotwells. The River Avon runs right to the heart of the centre and much of the city has been developed around it over the last decade with  new harbourside developments featuring flats, restaurants, bars, night clubs and office space.

The historic heart of the city is located in Corn Street (featuring huge merchant buildings formerly the heart of the corn exchange), Broad Street, High Street and Christmas Steps (steeped hill dating back to medieval times) and Queen Square (enclosed pedestrianised square).

The centre itself was redeveloped around St Augustine's Parade for the Millennium, with a series of fountains and centre piece sculpture erected. The Bristol Hippodrome is located on St Augustine's Parade.

Broadmead

Broadmead is Bristol's main city centre shopping destination with over 300 stores, made up of high street names (Marks & Spencer, House of Fraser, H & M, Next, HMV, Debenhams) and boutiques.

Broadmead is adjacent to a new retail & leisure area, Cabot Circus. Located at the entrance to Bristol from the M32 Cabot Circus provides an additional 100 new shops including a flagship House of Fraser, and a new Harvey Nichols store, as well as a multi screen cinema, office and residential space.

Harbourside

The City docks were closed in the 1970s when the Royal Portbury Dock was opened. The harbourside has undergone massive regeneration since the 1990s and now features many residential developments, new hotels, a City of Bristol College building, bars, restaurants and night clubs. In fact harbourside Bristol is the largest dock regeneration project in the whole of the UK.

The area is also home to the Watershed Media Centre, the Arnolfini art gallery and @ Bristol, a science & technology exploration museum and IMAX theatre. An aquarium has now opened on the site formerly used by Wildwalk.
