Bristol Boxing - A guide to amateur boxing clubs in Bristol
The great Olympic sport of ABA Boxing is one of the largest attractions off the track and field events. With women being entered in the GB Olympic Boxing Team for the first time in 2012, the sport's profile is increasing daily.
Across Bristol you will find many boxing clubs open to the public, either for fitness and recreation or for competitive training.
Some clubs, like Patchway CC Amateur Boxing Club run exclusive boxing sessions just for women, of all ages. Headed up by ABA of England Coaches Nige Burr and Lloyd Lewis, they will take you through your paces to increase your fitness, health, co-ordination, skills and techniques. The club has just been awarded ABA of England status. Is the first school in the South West and only one of a handful across the nation to get this award, being featured in the Bristol Evening Post, Ben Prater's BBC Radio Bristol's Drive Time Show and ITV's Westcountry Tonight. Under the new management of Nige and Lloyd, this club has already attracted numerous awards nominations and prizes. The club offer sessions for young people, adults and ladies.
Bristol Boxing Gym, headed up by father and son team Chris and Jamie Sanigar is another popular gym in the city centre, as are Smelters Boxing ABC headed up by Garry Cave, and Downend ABC run by Chief Coach Craig Turner.
