Yearly, there are about 150 running races within a 30 mile radius of Bristol. That has to be at least 70,000 places on the start line for people of all abilities, with all kinds of reasons to run: to win; to help others; to be healthy - to feel good.
In truth, we all run a race for our own reasons, so that's at least 70,000 reasons to feel good!
But you may be happy to run alone, or with a friend, along the banks of the Frome, around Harbourside or the Downs. Or perhaps a little test up the hill to Purdown, up Redland Road, or any one of Bristol's wonderful hills? Bristol is beautiful thanks to the hills, the water, the architecture, and the parks - many of which provide traffic free routes between the heart of the city and the countryside.
Running has to be the cheapest sport, the most convenient, the most beginner friendly - and it gives us back our city: Free to enjoy the view, free of the hassle of congestion, the runner becomes confident in her own environment, no longer fleeing from door to door in the illusionary safety of the car.
If you want to join with others there are at least 14 clubs to choose from - for all tastes.
Whatever your interest, everything you need to know about clubs, shops, races, routes, blogs, books and more can be found on the website, Bristol Running Resource.
