Bristol Rovers (nickname The Pirates and locally as The Gas) currently play in Coca Cola League One having been promoted the previous season. The club was founded in 1883 as The Black Arabs and after a name change to Eastville Rovers in 1884 they then settled on Bristol Rovers in 1899.
They currently play at The Memorial Ground in Horfield, previously owned and now shared by Bristol Rugby having moved from Eastville Park and in stint in Bath after sale of their stadium at Eastville in 1996 - where IKEA is now! Developments to increase capacity at the stadium have now been put on hold for 12 months as an alternative investor is sought, so much to many fans delight they will not have to make the trek to Cheltenham each week as was the scenario had developments of the ground moved forward.
The club finished mid table in the 2007/08 season however had a fantastic run in the FA Cup making it through to the quarter finals before being beaten 5-1 by West Bromwich Albion. No doubt the team will look to build on this success and challenge for promotion to the Championship this season.
