Description:
The Downs Veterinary Practice Bristol was set up in 2002 by Damien Bush. Damien qualified from Cambridge in 1992 and after a period as a captain in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps worked in practice, where he studied for and gained the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2000. Damien's certificate shows his experience and competence in his chosen field of interest, and allows him to take referrals of difficult cases from other vets.Damien is ably backed up by his support staff. Estelle St John-Smith is head nurse and is an experienced qualified veterinary nurse.
The Downs Veterinary Practice aims for the highest standards in clinical and client care. This means that we possess the latest medical and surgical equipment, and keep up to date with advances in the veterinary field to ensure we can give the best quality treatment available. More than this, though, we care for our clients as well as our patients, and so provide convenient consulting times, long consultations to give us the time to explain treatment options and we are always at the end of a phone for advice.
We provide
the standard facilities you would expect of any veterinary surgery, such as a surgical theatre, waiting room and consultation rooms. We have facilities to hospitalise patients, and to provide 24 hour patient care if necessary. We also have x-ray, ultrasound, two endoscopes, the latest in house blood testing equipment and sophisticated surgical equipment.
As well as providing basic and advanced veterinary care for illnesses and accidents, we are also proactive in preventing diseases. To this end we offer a variety of clinics run by the nurses, such as weight clinics, senior "well-pet" clinics and puppy socialisation parties. We provide leaflets on a number of common conditions, and a video and book lending library. We will do house visits if requested, but bear in mind that we are far more limited in what we can provide for an animal in the owner's house than we are at the surgery.
We are open Monday to Friday , between 8am and 7pm. Consultations are by appointment between 8.30 am and 10.30 am and 4.30 pm and 6.30 pm. However, urgent and emergency cases will be seen immediately. On Saturday we are open 9am to 12pm. For people who cannot make these consulting hours, please ask if an appointment can be made at another time and we will do our best to accommodate you.
