Guide2Bristol Cycling Competition

Okay, you all know that we're big fans of cycling here at Guide2Bristol, and so we should be - we live in the UK's First Cycling City, after all. Even though we're still nursing our knees after pedalling 950 miles into the wind from John O'Groats to Land's End, we're already eyeing up our next bit of distance pedalling - Bristol's Biggest Bike Ride!

It's a great day out for cyclists of all ages and abilities, and we're happy to be supporting it. There are five bike rides to choose from, ranging from 9 to 38 miles, all starting from Millennium Square and heading towards a traffic free Portway, as well as venturing into the beautiful countryside beyond. We will be going the whole 38 miles, and hoping to see plenty of friends on the route!

There will be four of us riding on the day, Bernie, Phil, Rudy and Anthony. You'll be able to spot us wearing our official Guide2Bristol team jerseys, so please give us a wave if you do. We're awaiting delivery of the jerseys from amazing kit manufacturers Owayo any day now, but for the time being take a look at the image to see how fancy we'll look.

To celebrate the ride we'll be giving away three jerseys, worth £50 each. Don't worry, they don't all have ‘Rudy' on the sleeve, that's just the mock-up. However, they all are manufactured in Germany with the highest quality performance fabrics. They're guaranteed by us to draw admiring glances from all and sundry as you cycle round town, or hydrate yourself with a pint of cider.

To be in with a chance of winning one of the jerseys on offer, simply sign up and leave a comment here, telling us something that you love or something that you hate about cycling in Bristol, or wherever you live. If you tickle our fancy, you'll win a shirt - it's a simple as that! Make sure to tell us whether you are a Medium, Large or X-Large too - the size chart is here. We'll pick our winners and notify you on Monday the 22nd of June.

Good luck!

When i'm riding my bike in bristol, I can get rather feedup with teh cars, buses and lorries taking up most of the space on the roads, getting in my way in their grid lock fashion. On the other hand when i'm driving in my car, I can get rather agitated by cyclists wobbling down the road slowing me down as i ttry to over take them. It reminds me of a story I was told as a kid. "As a rule men are a fool, when its hot they want it cool, when its cool they want it hot, always wanting what is not" Thank you.. Wheres MY jersey.... Andy B

I can't make this flow properly since line breaks don't seem to work, but here goes:

Cycling most days in our fair city is usually good, but sometimes a pity. Sucking in, breathing deep, a knowing smirk at the cars three deep. Not taking part in the sad car wars, looking around, being outdoors.

Climbing hills is such hard work, then downhill past the idling Merc. Driver sitting half-asleep, he doesn’t care the down’s as steep. Speeding along enjoying the rain, using the space in the bus lane. Broken glass I carefully pass, skip the puncture - a pain in the ass.

Knowing how long, before embarking, and at journey’s end, always free parking. Crossing one of Bristol’s many spans, hiding from wind, chasing vans. Saving the planet, saving fuel, wearing lycra, looking cool. Improving my health, preserving my wealth.

Cycling in Bristol, most things are great
I overlook the few I hate.

(XXL please - I'm not really a fat biffer but I know Owayo's sizing!)

I like cycling up Mont d'Arbre Neuf on my fixed speed folding bike. Just about possible if you follow a zig-zag course.

Large with polka-dots, please.

Our dad takes us cycling every Sunday morning at the park and we think he'd look mint in a new top, he would need the extra large one though.

I've only been cycling a month and started it to get fit, to be honest I was absolutely dreading it as I haven't cycled properly since school and thats 30 yrs ago! But the moment I got to work on my first cycle in I was elated, on a real high. I absolutely loved it, it made me feel young again. I can't believe I've found a way of keeping fit that I actually enjoy. It's made me look at revisiting all the other sports I used to enjoy as a teenager and I've taken up one of those again now too, Kayaking.

The thing I really dislike is having to carry a heavy lock everywhere and even then half expecting the bike to be gone when I get back to it. Gone are the lovely days when as a kid I'd just rest my bike up against a wall outside a shop, never dreamt of locking it up and it would always be there when you got back out.

I like cycling in Bristol as life is simply better by bike or it was until I had a crash this morning and bent my beloved basket beyond repair and injured my hands, legs and pride............ A new shirt may just start the healing process. I reckon a large one should do it. I'll then wear it on 21st. Me, the shirt and the new basket will cut a dash!

I wish we could all live together in peace, cyclists and motorists in beautiful harmony. We're all people, for goodness sake! Although we cyclists are obviously better looking and generally sexier all round. Anyway, I just love spinning my wheels and doing deals in Bristol, you get me? Medium please!

I love seeing a cyclist repeatedly make more yardage in less time than fancy pants cars on Gloucester Road. The pure, liquid fury in the faces of the car passengers as they watch the lycra-clad pedallists fly by is worth more than gold. I don't want the jersey, just wanted to share really. Good luck on your epic journey lads- I imagine you riding along looking like the cyclist characters from Monkey Dust...

The thing I hate most about cycling in Bristol is living in Rochdale, where it's hilly and usually raining! If I win, though, I promise to visit and find out what there is to love about cycling in Bristol! o)

They look teeriffic! I'll chance my arm then - I love cycling on the Pill cycle track. If you ever hear anyone serenading the cows with a gutsy version of Billy Joel's 'Don't Go Changing', that will be me.
